Drawing a Still Life in Tone

I have sketched in a compositional layout using a 2b graphite pencil, and given a slight indication as to where the lights and darks  fall.  I want to be careful not press too hard while making my lines because eventually all the lines will blend in with the tone and be eliminated.

Using a 4b pencil, I'm beginning to establish light and dark areas.

I'm continuing to build up tone by hatching.  I'm using a 6b pencil now and trying to really separate the darker shadows.

I have cleaned up the light areas of the page, and deepened the darkest shadows with a 9b.
